Epidemiological Surveillance

Teams are experts towards the French Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure a surveillance to prevent potential emergences or re-emergences, to implement border restrictions if necessary. The aim is to know the epidemiological state of diseases at any time and to predict the genetic evolution of viruses. For, instance the BIOPIC team is performing epidemiologic surveillance surveys. Each year, 800 serums are tested by ELISA for the FMD. BIOPIC is animating a network of laboratories, among them 4 French departemental laboratories which may perform serological surveillance. It consists in inter-laboratory tests (serology) and support in quality improvment.
